If you happened to be watching the BBC tonight you may have seen the consumer rights programme "Watchdog". Featured amongst some the highly dubious businesses plying their trades, poor customer service centres and Anne Robinson's botoxed face, you will probably have noticed a big name in the firing line - Sony. The PS3 was in trouble for the so-called "Yellow Ring of Death", an alleged (check me out, covering my legal behind!) fault with the console, so named as an homage to the Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death.

Headphone technology has increased greatly in recent years - you can get truly amazing sound through some of the modern cans - but less effort seems to be put into features and functions. Going wireless was thought to be a big step, but hasn't really taken on like it could have. So well done Sony Ericsson for trying to push the boundaries a little bit with their Sony Ericsson MH907 Motion Activated headphones, which could turn out to be a bit special.

Sony's technical team have been beavering away in their labs and have come up with something which could be revolutionary - a wireless power transfer. Using magnetic resonance, up to 60W of power can be transferred from one point to another to a distance of 1/2 metre. Each component of the link can be tuned to the same resonance, so you can make a chain, from plug socket to device.

Sony's reputation for technology is well deserved - they barely get things wrong. The Bravia range of TVs have really caught the imagination of the general public thanks to some attractive design, good picture quality and clever ad campaigns so when it was announced that they were releasing their KDL-40W5500, a 40" LCD Full HD TV, earlier in the spring of this year there was a genuine sense of anticipation from gadget fans everywhere. We have got our hands on one (at last)to give it the full monty and put it through its paces. Here's what we found:

If you happen to be passing through Tokyo on the 22nd of October, make sure you pop by the Digital Contents Expo at the Miraikan. There, you will see an example of Sony's latest 3D technology in the form of a 10" prototype display. The device will be autostereoscopic, which means you will be able to view the image without the need for ridiculous 3D glasses, and you will be able to view it from any angle.
